Alice Louise Mahar, age 69, of Northampton, MA, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 after a courageous three and a half year battle with Multiple Myeloma.

Alice will be forever missed by her husband, constant companion & devoted caretaker of 49 years, Michael Mahar.  Alice was also a loving mother to her three cherished sons, Ryan and wife Abbie, Sean and wife Missy, and Jamie and wife Lauren.  Alice was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, Abbey, Ava, Emma, Brendan, Connor, Kelsey, and Kayla.

Alice was the daughter of Frank and Elsie Kessler, and grew up in Easthampton, MA as one of seven Kessler children.  Alice retired in 2009 from a 30 year teaching career, spending the majority of her career teaching 1st and 2nd grades at Jackson Street School where she made many lasting relationships with students and faculty.  Alice spent her time in retirement taking drives in her convertible with her husband, dining out for breakfast, enjoying tea with her former coworkers and friends, cooking new recipes, spoiling her grandchildren, and making 31 trips to Ireland to visit her son, Jamie, and grandchildren.

A private burial will occur at the Brookside Cemetery in Easthampton, MA.  Alice's family appreciates the skillful care she received at the Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson, and the tender care she received from the staff at CareOne Northampton.  Donations may be made in Alice's name to the Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson (https://www.cooleydickinson.org/giving/).
