William A. (Bill), (Uncle Bull), Cater, Jr. aged 87, of Easthampton, died peacefully on Saturday February 8, 2014 surrounded by his loved ones. Bill was born in North Providence, RI in 1926 to parents Constance and William. After Moving to Easthampton he met his wife, Dorothy Molitoris.
Bill, a WW11 veteran, served in the US Army as a Military Police Officer and was stationed in the Phillipines. Upon his return he graduated from Vaughn Barber School and Roffler Hair Styling Academy, both of Hartford, CT. He opened Razor’s Edge Barber Shop in Easthampton in 1950, where he served his customers and friends well until he retired in 1987. Bill was a proud, longtime member of the American Legion Dalton LaVallee Post 224 and served as Legion Photographer, preserving memories of the town and it’s people that he loved.
A devoted Lutheran, Bill loved his church community and attended church faithfully, serving in many church positions. Bill was also a longtime member of the Easthampton Chamber of Commerce and served as Chamber President for 5 years. He could be seen year after year putting up town Christmas decorations, smiling, whistling and talking to everyone he passed. An avid sports enthusiast, Bill could often times be found on the golf course and/or tuning to the Red Sox, Celtics or Patriots.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy, his younger brother, Robert, and many loving nieces and nephews and great nephews.
Family and friends may call at the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Easthampton on Saturday, February 15, from 9am to 10am.
Calling hour is followed by a funeral service at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 34 Jarvis Ave., Holyoke at 11 am with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donation in Bill’s memory may be sent to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the family’s convenience .
“Good, better, best. Never let it rest, until your good is better, and your better, is best” Bill Cater lived his life fulfilling this favorite motto of his. He strove to do his best and succeeded as a husband, son, brother, uncle, soldier, friend, and barber.
