In memory of Virginia (Ginni) Richardson Hurteau
It is with extreme sadness that the family of Virginia Hurteau announces her passing on November 30 2025 at the age of 74.
Ginni was a "Cooley baby" born February 23, 1951. She graduated from Easthampton High School in 1969, and received her Batchelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from UMass Amherst in 1973. She worked her way through college at the local Howard Johnsons. This is where she met her future husband, Henry J. Hurteau Sr.
Ginni married Henry J Hurteau from Holyoke MA at the Immaculate Conception Church in Easthampton in May of 1972. They raised their children Rachel and Henry in Easthampton. Ginni worked alongside Dr. Kenneth Anolik in Northampton for 18 years as the Office Manager. Ginni was the glue that held the practice together. She and Ken collaborated their efforts to enable each other to raise their families while providing the most efficient and compassionate care in the Valley.
Her love for children was expressed in her willingness to serve the youth of Easthampton as a long time Girl Scout Leader, bringing her troop to Juliette Low's birthplace and even to Europe. Although she was a “nontraditional troop leader”, four of her scouts received the highest Girl Scout honor, The Gold Award.
Ginni was the "Queen" of a very active group called the “Mad Red Hatters”. This was no ordinary Red Hat group. Sure, they had the usual dinner get togethers and ice cream socials, but she and her group of merry mischief makers also traveled the US and the world. Ginni was up for anything and made many traveling buddies through the years.
As a member of the Easthampton's Senior Center, Ginni was the head of the Travel Club, sharing her love of experiencing new places. She loved posting pictures of her many traveling adventures in “Where in the world is Ginni"?
Ginni was an avid quilter, knitter, crocheter, making special treasures for family and friends. She never sold one piece. Each piece was made specifically for the person it was intended for. Ginni loved to give homemade Christmas presents and worked on them year-round.
Ginni is survived by her two children; Henry J Hurteau Jr. of Easthampton, Rachel C. Harris and her husband, Christopher Harris of Southampton. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Charlotte A. Harris of Southampton and Joseph R. Harris of Arizona, as well as her sister Claudia J. Roberts of New Hampshire. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews and her many friends, gently referred to as Ginni's posse.
Ginni is predeceased by her parents, David and Clara (Murphy) Richardson, her husband, Henry in 2009 and her brother, David Richardson of Marshfield MA in 2024.
