Thomas Stevens Obituary

Thomas Stevens, 83, of Easthampton, MA, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born on January 23, 1941, in Hartford, CT, the son of Harold and Florence Stevens.  He was raised in Rocky Hill, CT, and enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably between 1959 and 1963.

While in the Air Force, Tom was involved in a debilitating car accident that resulted in the amputation of his right leg, along with other injuries that affected him throughout his life.  As a result of his experiences, he became a strong advocate for rights for people with disabilities.  He embraced his life as a person with a disability and approached his challenges with great humor and acceptance.

Tom spent most of his career with the Department of Defense as a Quality Control specialist. One of his proudest accomplishments was serving as Union President for the local National Federation of Federal Employees.

Tom was a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous.  After struggling with addictions and alcoholism for many years, he maintained a fully sober life for more than forty-five years, contributing widely to the AA community and helping countless others achieve the beautiful gift of sobriety.  His kindness and generosity were felt by many.  Tom applied the principles of this program, as well as his slightly skewed sense of humor, to get him through the challenges in his life, including his end-of-life struggles with Parkinson’s disease.

Tom developed a deep passion for golf, and became an exceptional player, competing in leagues and tournaments throughout North America. He was especially passionate about his Braves (the Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta versions) and his Packers, never missing a game, and maintaining a knowledge of both as deep as any sportscaster. Tom was equally passionate about social justice and political progressivism and was an informed, engaged, and active citizen.

Tom leaves his loving wife of 24 years, Elaine Beaudoin, children Kelly Stevens, Sam Stevens and wife Leslie,  Kevin Boucher and wife Mary Wang- Boucher,  Mitch Boucher and wife Rebekah Perks, grandchildren Kelly, Sean, Kyle, Tovah, Noelle and Matthew. Tom also leaves his brother Eddie and wife Elsa, and nephews Brian and John.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents, his son Thomas Jr., and his brothers Donald (known as Hank) and Ronald.

Tom spent the last 2 years as a resident at Linda Manor. The family would like to thank the caring  staff for their dedication and loving care of Tom.
