TED SEARLE, February 4, 1948- February 4, 2025
Ted Searle, 77, (b. Edward Cornelius Searle III) of West Brattleboro passed away quietly at his home in early February. He was born in Springfield, Mass. February 4, 1948, the son of the late Edward C. Searle Jr. and Genevieve N. Searle. He was an artisan, doing paintings, stained glass and crafting silver jewelry. He worked at the Steakout Restaurant in Brattleboro for many years. He also enjoyed his time working with the Vermont Adult Learning in Brattleboro at the end of his working career. He was known for his quiet good nature, insightful sense of humor and his great appreciation for the environment. He enjoyed reading, music, conducting research on the computer, traveling in his pride and joy Mustang, and connecting with his friends and family. He also especially enjoyed participating in his writing group in Brattleboro.
He attended local schools in Southampton and graduated from Easthampton High School in 1966. He attended Brevard College in Brevard, NC and Holyoke Community College, and graduated from Windham College in Putney VT in 1971 with a degree in art.
In his later years he demonstrated tremendous personal courage, grace and tenacity as his health declined in his battles with cancer. He confronted these challenges with no defeatism, but rather with remarkable resolve and perseverance. In spite of these challenges he maintained an active lifestyle.
He was predeceased by his parents Genevieve Nacewicz Searle and Edward Cornelius Searle Jr., both in 2012. Ted is survived by his brother Barry Searle of Southampton, his niece Annie Searle, of Southampton, nephew Nathaniel Searle of Andover MA, niece Laura Smith of Buchanan, NY, and many cousins.
A private family service will be held in the summer in Vermont.
Donations in Ted’s memory may be made to the Brattleboro Hospice, the Brattleboro Humane Society or the American Cancer society.
Mitchell Funeral Home of Easthampton in charge of arrangements.
