Steven Lytwyn, Obituary

Steven W. Lytwyn, 70, passed away peacefully at home on April 25, 2025, after a period of declining health. He was born in Manhattan on June 15, 1954, to Stefan and Julia (Wrubel) Lytwyn.

The Lytwyn family relocated to Stamford, Connecticut, during Steven’s childhood, where he attended Stamford schools. He graduated from Stamford High School and went on to earn a degree in Construction Management from Utica College (now Utica University). Following graduation, Steven worked in Loss Control for USF&G in Springfield for several years. His passion for construction eventually led him to a long and successful career with Daniel O'Connell’s Sons in Holyoke, where he served as Safety Director for over 36 years. Under his leadership, the company received numerous prestigious safety awards, a testament to his dedication and expertise. Known fondly as “Safety Steve,” he was also a valued member of the Western Massachusetts Safety Alliance. In addition, Steven was appointed by Mayor Nicole LaChapelle to serve on the Board of Public Works for the City of Easthampton, a role he held until his passing.

A lover of music and live concerts, Steven was a devoted fan of the band Porcupine Tree and enjoyed sharing his extensive knowledge of their music and its intricacies. He was also an avid sports fan, with a special passion for hockey. Steven was a lifelong supporter of the Hartford Whalers and frequently attended AHL games, proudly cheering on the Springfield Thunderbirds. His quick wit and sense of humor brought laughter to all who knew him, and his family will forever cherish the jokes he told before every family meal.

Steven is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Camille (Lukowski) Lytwyn; his daughter, Kathryn (Katie) Marcinowski, and her husband, Mateusz; and his cherished grandson and “lap buddy” for all the Celtics and Bruins games, Logan Marcinowski. He will also be missed by his loyal dog, Sonny. Steven leaves behind his brother Andrew Lytwyn (wife Kim) and his family, Nicole Siminitchi and Matthew Lytwyn, of Houston, TX. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Lukowski and her family, Sarah Lukowski of Georgia, and Timothy Lukowski of Easthampton, as well as nephews Jason Couture, Joe Lukowski, and Joshua Lukowski.

A special thank you to David Iovino, Steven’s injury-prone and lifelong best friend from Fairfield, OH, for his unwavering friendship and support. Steven was predeceased by his parents, Stefan and Julia Lytwyn, his in laws Henry and Charlotte Lukowski, as well as his brothers-in-law Hank Lukowski and Michael Lukowski.
