Stanley Konopka, 94, of 59 Pomeroy Meadow Road, Southampton, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family following a period of declining health at WINGATE Healthcare Center in West Springfield on Monday, 30 October, 2017.
Stanley was born in Westfield, MA on September 3, 1923. He was the son of the late Stella (Wiszowate) Konopka and Frank Konopka. Stanley was pre-deceased by his sister Frances and brother William.
Stanley was educated in Southampton schools. He first worked on the family farm and later on he was employed by the Plainville Casting Company in Westfield, where he worked in the Foundry, retiring in 1985.
He was a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose and he was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Easthampton.
Stanley loved gardening and taking care of the family homestead. He loved taking his truck out each day to purchase sweet bakery treats, check in on old friends, and just drive the roads in Southampton. However, he found the most joy operating his beloved tractor. His favorite time of day was the early evening where he would sit on his porch, watch the sun set into the open fields, and enjoy a shot, or two, of Peach Brandy with close friends.
A private graveside ceremony and burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Easthampton. There will be no visiting hours. Mitchell Funeral Home of Easthampton is in charge of arrangements.
Expressions of affection in the form of charitable contributions may be made to the Southampton Senior Center, Southampton MA 01073.
