Sophie M. Bak (83), of Easthampton, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents, Jan and Julia (Dec) Bak and all of her siblings.
Sophie was born in Sarzyna, Poland, and immigrated to the United States many years ago. While she was proud of where she came from, and despite having traveled to many places around the world, Easthampton became her home. She kept her heritage alive by regularly making traditional Polish dishes like pierogi and homemade ogórki, but her blueberry muffins were really her specialty. Anyone who knew Sophie, knew that she was very hard to track down because she was constantly “going out” and trying new restaurants and foods. She somehow managed to do all this traveling, cooking, and socializing while working full time at Tubed Products, Inc. in Easthampton.
She made many lifelong friends, and will be deeply missed by them all, but in particular, the Janocha, Ciborowski, Dusza, Urban, and Aldag families.
While she never married or had children of her own, Sophie became a “bonus” grandma to so many, but in particular, her great niece and nephew, Karolina and Kamil.
Sophie is survived by her nephew, Mieczyslaw and his wife, Dorota, great niece, Karolina and her husband, Evan, and great nephew, Kamil and his fiancée, Christina, in addition to many other nieces, nephews, and extended family around the world.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of East Longmeadow Memory Care Assisted Living who cared for Sophie, and provided her with a home away from home; though she wanted to stay home more than anything, she truly enjoyed her time there.
The public is invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial that will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Our Lady of the Valley Church, 33 Adams St., Easthampton, MA, followed by burial at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Sophie’s memory to Our Lady of the Valley Church or the American Diabetes Association.
