Sophia Baranowski, 91, of Easthampton, Massachusetts died unexpectedly May 21 at Milford Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Stare Krzewo, Poland to Stefania and Boleslaw Ciborowski. She grew up on her family's beautiful orchard, and talked of how, during the war, her father helped their Jewish neighbors hide from the Nazis. She is predeceased by her sister, Henryka, and brothers, Marian, Juzef, Kazimir and Lucien. She is survived by her sister, Jadwiga, of Poland.
Sophia went to nursing school and loved working in a hospital in Poland. On a visit to her aunt and uncle in Easthampton, she met her husband, Teddy, fell in love and married. She often joked about how he had to teach her how to cook. In the U.S., Sophia worked as a home health aide and a talented seamstress.
She loved gardening, cooking, hosting a holiday meal, knitting and crocheting, travel, old Westerns, going out to lunch, and spending the day in the sun at the beach. But most of all, Sophia loved and was devoted to her family. Her late husband, Teddy, and her daughter, Barbara, of Medway; and her extended family, especially her dear nephew, Andrej Ciborowski, and his wife, Cindy, and their children, Sylvia and Evan; and her dear niece, Ewa Wieloszynski, her husband, Jan, and their children, Dawid and Sylwia.
The Funeral will be Friday May 27 at the Mitchell Funeral Home from 10 to 1045am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in the Our Lady of the Valley Parish, followed by burial in St Stanislaus Cemetery all of Easthampton. www.mitchellcofuneralhome.com
