Robert M. (Bob) Mathieu, 67, of Easthampton passed away Tuesday March 1, in his home with family at his side, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Greenfield February 6, 1949 the son of Robert F. and Irene M.( Winsky) Mathieu. He was raised in Northampton and attended Annunciation school and Northampton High School. Prior to retirement Robert worked for many years as a sales rep for Rugg Lumber & Cowls. He was a
member of First Congregational Church in Huntington where he sang in the choir and participated in the services. Robert was an avid power lifter with the former UPC power lifting club based in Northampton Ma. Robert was a world record holder in his age and weight class with RPS federation. He was also ranked in Powerlifting Watch top 30 for his division. He enjoyed hot rods and old car restoration, watching westerns, and was an avid reader and a history buff. Robert had a good sense of humor and was fun to be with. Robert was much loved and will be greatly missed by all those lives he touched.
Robert is survived by his wife of 24 years Carol (Gonzales) Mathieu, one son Crispin Mathieu and wife Valerie of Holyoke, stepson Josh Wilson and wife Leia and grandson Jacob of Westfield, , three sisters Judith Mathieu of Durham, NC., Cheryl Mathieu of Bentonville, AR., and Anna Johnson of Chengdu ,China and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Faris and Dr. Cusack of Mass. General Hospital and Dr Mateen and the oncology department at Holyoke Medical Center as well as South 3 staff at Holyoke Medical Center and Holyoke VNA and Hospice Life Care. Funeral services will be Monday March 7, at 10 am in the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Easthampton, Visiting hours will be Sunday March 6, at the funeral home from 3pm to 5pm. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
