Ralph “Buddy” Lyman Jr, 64, of Easthampton, died Oct 19, 2024, after a challenging year-long battle with cancer. He was born in Northampton on Dec 17, 1959, the son of Ralph and Pearl (Challet) Lyman Sr. Buddy attended Smith Vocational School in Northampton, where he studied Forestry. He owned the Lyman Logging Co. and worked at several other logging companies and Fitzgerald Fencing.
He loved riding Harley-Davidsons, logging, salmon fishing in upstate New York, and playing Showdown Poker and other card games. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, and was a big fan of #48, Jimmie Johnson before Jimmie’s retirement. He enjoyed older “good music” including songs like “96 Tears” and “Brown Eyed Girl” and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. He also loved spending time with his friends and family, which always included a few good laughs. After his diagnosis, he visited his favorite place, Nashawannuck Pond, almost daily, looking for answers, strength, and peace… and his missing cell phone.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Maria (Diaz) Lyman; sister, Sandy Wentworth-Miller; brother-in-law, Mark Luchini; two sons; two stepsons; a stepdaughter; a granddaughter; six step-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Bonnie Luchini.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 3rd, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Pulaski Club, downstairs, at 79 Maple Street, Easthampton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life (http://main.acsevents.org/goto/SandyW ) in Buddy’s memory.
