Norman Menard Obituary

Norman Theodore Menard (5/11/34-4/13/25)

At nearly ninety-one years old, Norman “Norm” Menard  joined our heavenly Father on April 13, 2025. He is missed by his wife of 68 years, Joan Menard (Morin), his sister, Lucille O’Connor (Menard), his seven children, Norman Menard Jr and wife, Lynn (Chlosta); Michele Maznick (Menard); Danielle Menard; Leslie Marcyoniak (Menard) and husband, Stanley; Peter Menard and wife, Nancy; Jeffrey Menard; and Mark Menard. He was a grandfather to seven, including Kevin Bushey; Shane Maznick and wife, Wendy (Darling); Tiarra Maznick and husband, Dinesh Kumar; Jeremy Marcyoniak and husband, Sean Wang; Ryan Marcyoniak; Rebecca Reaves (Chlosta) and husband, Josh; Ryan Chlosta and wife, Caitlin (Andrus); Raquel Chlosta; and a great-grandfather to eleven, including Calvin, Xavier, Liam, Duncan, and Belle Darling-Maznick; Olatunde and Uzoma Cooper; Maverick and Nova Reaves; and Ellie and Finley Chlosta. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Irene, as well as his brother Roy.
Born in Northampton, Massachusetts to Theodore and Irene (Boudreau) Menard, he was the eldest sibling to Roy Menard and Lucille O’Connor (Menard). He graduated from Northampton High School in 1952, after which he joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Alaska at one point.  He returned to Western Massachusetts to marry Joan in December 1956.

He retired as foreman electrician at the Northampton State Hospital after 28 years, and then from the Stoneybrook Power Plant after 18 years. Forever adept with his hands, he could repair nearly anything with a motor.
Norman was an avid hunter and angler, going to the Berkshires and the Quabbin with children in tow.  In his retirement, he particularly enjoyed perusing auctions and tag sales; he had a keen eye for quick repairs and potential upsale value.

Luck befell him, winning on scratch tickets and raffles (including a Honda 50 minibike the kids rode for years), and playing for years in various poker circles. He also enjoyed visiting the casinos–though, admittedly, for their buffet seafood.

In addition to attending Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, and Our Lady of the Valley Churches, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Northampton, Massachusetts, serving as a Grand Knight and a District Deputy.

He was known to be a social and caring friend, visiting and calling loved ones often. As a sign of his love, he distributed the tomatoes he grew, to the surprise of many, in a garden bed of sand.
Friends and family of Norman are invited to his Funeral Mass, at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Easthampton on Friday, April 25th at 11:00.  Calling hours are at Mitchell Funeral Home in Easthampton Thursday April 24th between 4 and 6.pm
