Melvin Lafrance Jr, age 81, passed away at Baystate Medical Center on April 2nd, 2026. He was born in Northampton, Massachusetts on February 26, 1945. He was the son of Melvin Lafrance Sr and Lucille Lafrance.
Melvin attended Northampton public schools and trade school in Springfield. He worked with his father for Lafrance Trucking and Landscaping until it was sold. Melvin then worked as a foreman for New England Tree Company. He then moved on to work as a mechanic for the PVTA bus company. Melvin was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church. Melvin enjoyed boating and working on cars, he would always help anyone with their car troubles, he was a great mechanic who loved helping his family and friends. Melvin enjoyed trips to the family cottage up in Hampton beach and camping. Melvin is predeceased by his father Melvin Lafrance Sr. and his mother Lucille Lafrance, and his sister Nancy Fernier. Melvin is survived by his sister Barbara Lamontagne, his nephew George and his wife Kerry Lamontagne from Northampton, and his niece Jennifer Belleny and her husband Christopher from Salem, Michele and Steven Suburba from Holyoke, 5 nephews and 1 niece. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, his light will continue to shine in the hearts of his family.
The family will be holding a private service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
