Obituary

Mary (Larareo) Walklin, 75, of Leeds passed away Friday, July 14th after a brief illness.

Mary began her adult life as a hairdresser.  She studied in Amherst, worked for a salon in Cape Cod during summers, and eventually opened her own Salon, “Guys & Dolls” in West Yarmouth, MA.   After moving to North Carolina with her family, she dabbled in different occupations both in cosmetology and real estate.

After settling back in Massachusetts, Mary decided at age 38 to go to nursing school.  She became an RN and worked until retirement as an Oncology nurse at Baystate Medical Center. She was a compassionate and extremely knowledgeable caregiver to many over the years.  Mary was an avid reader, loved gardening and painting, and was a wonderful cook.

Mary leaves her daughter Debra Simmons (Gene), beloved granddaughter Emily Scanlon, and siblings William Larareo, Robert Larareo (Maureen), Gary Larareo, Karen Brackett, Christopher Larareo, and Stephen Brackett, as well as several cherished nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to Mass Brigham General Cooley Dickinson Hospital for the care of Mary beginning with the Emergency Department to the 4th floor ICU.  Their care and compassion went above and beyond in every way and we are very grateful for each and every one of them.

Services will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Easthampton, MA, on Thursday, July 20th between 4-6 pm.
