We are saddened to announce the death of Mary Kathryn “Kathy” Doyle née,
Meyer. Kathy passed away, surrounded with love on August 20th, 2022. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Richard Kempter Meyer and Hilda née Toye Meyer on June 19th, 1945. Kathy lived most of her life in Bergen and Essex County, New Jersey before moving to Easthampton, Massachusetts.
Kathy, an educator for 50+ years, was well known amongst her colleagues and family as one of the most unimaginably compassionate and dedicated learner and educator they have ever met. Kathy made it her life’s work to teach with a very simple mantra that reminded us all to, “Question Everything, Explore Everything, Pay Attention and Look Closely at the Unusual”. Using books, stories, and art to enhance our experiences and then, “Tell it.” She would challenge us and ask, “How can you think about that in a new way?” Even after her retirement from teaching in public school in 2012, Kathy continued to strive to outgrow herself as a teacher by supporting others in the field to do more and more in their work to help children of all ages and all stripes live better lives, which she was also able to inspire and cultivate in her beloved grandson, Neil Henry Doyle.
Kathy was humble and left a lasting impression on all that knew her. She was vibrant and full of wonder and curiosity. May that spirit live on in those she has left behind, including her cat Luna, her sister Patricia Ann Meyer Kaplan of Princeton, NJ, her eldest son Richard Kenneth Doyle, her devoted daughter, Shannon Bridget Doyle and her wife Marci Katz and their daughter, Emma Katz of Easthampton, MA, and her beloved son, Sean Michael Doyle and his son Neil Henry Doyle, Sean’s fiancée Kathryn Quinless and her daughter Raegen Carter, of Harrison, New Jersey
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Saturday August 27th at our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton, Massachusetts which will be followed by burial in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
