Linda Lee Omasta passed away suddenly but peacefully at Linda Manor on the evening of August 8th, shortly after a long visit with her good friend Leila.
Born at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Florence, Massachusetts, Linda was the daughter of the late John and Eva Omasta, and a sister to John and Robert. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Faye Ambrefe Omasta, nephew Maxwell, close cousins James Omasta and Christine Omasta Kellogg, and her beloved cat, Baby.
A graduate of Northampton High School Class of 1973, Linda spent more than 23 years as a bartender/manager and bookkeeper at both Pine Grove Golf Course and Hugo’s Bar in Northampton, where she made countless friends and memories. When Hugo’s closed, she happily continued to serve old customers and new at Ye Old Watering Hole, until she had to retire due to her health.
Linda loved to see the world, traveling to Denmark and Hawaii multiple times, always returning with stories, souvenirs, and probably a few extra dessert recipes. Speaking of desserts, Linda was an exceptional baker, known far and wide for her irresistible sweets as well as her famous sweet tooth. No family gathering was complete without one of her creations (and no one ever left hungry).
Her loyalty, kindness and extra sass was said to be an essential ingredient to Hamp culture, and her ability to make people feel welcome and included was her gift. Her stories, laughter, and love will be remembered and shared for years to come.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at a later date in the fall.
