Kathryn (Kurtz) Hamelin, 71, of Florence, passed away peacefully Wednesday at the home of her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Margaret Hamelin of Easthampton. She was born May 7, 1943 in Northampton, the daughter of Christine (Vachula) Kurtz and the late Edmund M. Kurtz. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Hamelin who passed in February, 2013. Kathryn attended Northampton schools.
She was employed at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leeds for twenty years before she retired in 1996. She then spent many gratifying years in Florida with her husband, where she loved the beach and the warm weather. They later relocated back to Florence. Kathryn enjoyed bowling, reading, gardening and volunteering, as well as her pets.
Kathryn leaves her mother of Leeds, her son Kevin Hamelin of Chicopee, her daughter Karen Voorwinden, her son-in-law William Voorwinden and her beloved granddaughter Jadyn Voorwinden all of California, her brother Edmund J. Kurtz of Delaware and her sister Deborah Jones of Leominister.
Graveside services will be held Saturday June 21, at 10 am in Center Cemetery, Westhampton.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathryn’s memory may be given to Highland Valley Elder Services, 320 Riverside Drive, Florence, MA 01062, or to the VNA and Hospice of Cooley Dickinson Hospital, 168 Industrial Drive, Northampton, MA 01060.
