Gordon Patenaude, 81 of Ashfield, Massachusetts, loving husband of Janet Patenaude, went to be with our lord and savior on Saturday, June 17th after a long and courageous battle with his illness.
Gordon was the son of Kenneth and Marion Patenaude and grew up in Northampton, MA. He was a proud US Army veteran and police K-9 officer. He and Sabre, his air-scent trained K9, were successful in several search and rescue operations. Gordon loved spending time with his family, writing stories, ballroom dancing with Janet, visiting Maine, fly fishing and worshipping with his congregation at Maranatha Bible Chapel. Many may have seen or displayed his incredible holiday hanging light balls. He made friends easily with his quiet, caring and humble personality. He loved the Boston Red Sox which was often a humorous point of contention with his brothers and son in-law who are NY Yankee fans.
Gordon leaves his loving wife Janet who he was blessed to have met and married 13 years ago. He also leaves his daughter Debra Simmons (Gene) of Collinsville CT, devoted brothers James Patenaude (Carol) of Hatfield, Kenneth Patenaude (Mary) of Easthampton and granddaughter Emily Scanlon of Warren MA. He was also blessed to have 3 wonderful stepchildren whom he loved dearly, Tammy Fitzell (Ernie), Michael Dekoschak (Jennifer) and Mark Dekoschak (Sandy) and their families.
The Patenaude family would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to the loving nurses and CNA’s who treated Gordon with such warm and wonderful care at Charlene Manor
Calling hours will be Monday June 26 from 4 to 7pm at the Mitchell Funeral Home with a Funeral Service at 6pm. Burial with Miltary Honors will be at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam on June 27 at 10 AM
