Gertrude “Trudy” May (Monroe) Pietskowski of Westfield passed away on June 2, 2021, in Westfield, MA surrounded by family.

Trudy was born on Jan 12, 1943, in Geneva, New York, the daughter of Burton and Helen (Osborne) Monroe. Trudy attended local schools and graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1961. Trudy's first husband John “Jack” F. Welch passed away in 1986. She married John P. Pietskowski in 1996.

Trudy was employed as a head teller at United Cooperative Bank and then as an Inspector for Strathmore Paper Company, and later worked until retirement at Tsubaki. Trudy served in the USMC as a LCPL.

Trudy lived a long life surrounded by people that loved her. She loved spending time with her family and friends. One thing she was always known for was her upbeat attitude and positive outlook on life. She always had a smile on her face. In life Trudy enjoyed traveling. She often visited New York City to sightsee, but the highlight of her trip was always visiting family in Penn Yan, New York. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, she loved shopping with family, helping prepare the Christmas feast as well as making Christmas cookies with her grandchildren. In her personal time, she loved playing with her dog Snow, playing card games, listening to Polka music, and lounging at the pool with her grandkids.

In her younger years she was an active member of the Penn Yan Congregational Church. She would frequently attend Sunday worship in her youth and remained a devout Christian throughout her life. One thing she was very fond of was the Children's program at her church. Later in life as her family grew she would often enjoy camping with her family. When she went camping, she was frequently accompanied by relatives. She was an active member in her community, she joined a bowling team and would actively participate in events. After retirement Trudy and her husband enjoyed time together, they would frequently make day trips around New England. Another activity she enjoyed was playing bingo. Eventually, Trudy suffered from Dementia and required full time care, once this happened, she spent her final years in a care facility. She was often visited by family and friends who loved her.

Gertrude is survived by her husband John P. Pietskowski, 2 Son, John “Jack” Welch, Michael Welch, a Daughter: Debbi Leveille, 8 Grandchildren: Cody, Hunter, Jessica, Lindsey, Evan, Sierra, Anthony, Sydney, 2 Sister-in-law: Poly Monroe, Mary Monroe, 2 Daughter-in-law: Debra Welch, Lolita Welch, a Son-in-law: Mark Leveille.  She was predeceased by her first husband John Welch 2 Brothers Burton and James Monroe a Sister Alberta Henries and a Brother-in-law Daniel Henries

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be Tuesday June 15, at 9am in the Agawam Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family will have visiting hours Monday June 14 at the Mitchell Funeral Home 15 Park St. Easthampton, MA from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm
