Douglas Warren Smith, 83, of Williamsburg passed away Wednesday January 4th, 2017, at the Linda Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds. He was born October 1st, 1933, in Easthampton. He was the son of Clarence Vincent and Georgianna Marceline (Lamountain) Smith of Easthampton. He graduated from Easthampton H.S. and studied at Greenfield C.C. and the U. of Mass.

Douglas was a U.S. Army Veteran and worked at the VA Medical Center for 32 years. He worked there as a firefighter for 12 of the 32 years and as a police officer for the remaining 20 years. In addition, he was employed as a volunteer firefighter and police officer in the town of Williamsburg for many years. Doug first and foremost enjoyed spending time with his family but, also enjoyed supporting his precious New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and Celtics. He also loved time spent in his shop repairing and creating. A thoughtful, caring and quiet man, Doug leaves behind a legacy of gentle kindness etched in the hearts of all of those he touched.

Douglas is predeceased by his beloved wife Sylvia (Nye) Smith. Doug and "Sylvie" met on a blessed "blind" date and were married on May 28, 1955. They enjoyed a happy life and partnership together until Sylvia's passing in 1998. Doug lived on enjoying his family and friends but, always felt the loss of his once in a lifetime love and soulmate.
Douglas is predeceased in death by five of his siblings; Clarence R. Smith, Elizabeth Guyette, Dorothy Beyer, Ruth Berry and Ralph Smith. He is survived by his brother Kenneth Paul Smith and wife Debra of Westhampton, two sons, Craig Smith of Williamsburg, Keith Smith of Port Orange, FL. and daughter Laura Smith Owens and husband Robert of Winter Park, FL.
