Dorothy (Helems) Putnam

Dorothy (Helems) Putnam, 92, of Southampton died Wednesday July 13 at home. She was born July 16, 1929, in Northampton, the daughter of Leonard and Pearl (Reed) Helems. She attended local schools in Northampton. In 1983 she married Donald Putnam. 

Mom was the Administrative Assistant for the Town of Great Barrington.  After her retirement she enjoyed travelling and volunteering at the Senior Center of Great Barrington and Southampton.  In mom’s spare time she enjoyed many crafts, such as knitting, crocheting and sewing.  She knit several beautiful Icelandic sweaters for her family.  Mom loved spending time with her family, especially her great grandchildren.  She will be missed by her family and many friends.  Her family is very grateful for the care that mom received from Baystate Hospice, especially Andrea.

  Dorothy is survived by, two sons Richard Peppe of CT. and Sulo Pietila of ME., two daughters Nancy Davison of Southampton and Mary Ellen Siok of Dighton, two brothers Walter and Leonard Helems, 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Donald, her son Bob, by a great grandchild Sabrina, as well as her brother Edward.

Visiting hour will be July 19th from 4 to 6pm at the Mitchell Funeral Home
