David Harning Obituary

Huntington, Massachusetts.   David M. Harning passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital at the age of 70, surrounded by family and friends, and sharing his broad smile and wonderful sense of humor to the end.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 26, 1947, the son of Leo Roy Harning and Mary Jo (Ingold)Harning.

He attended the Assumption Preparatory School. David received a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1970.

David was a licensed Orthotist and Prosthetist. For many years he owned the R.E. Huck Company in San Francisco, later practicing his profession in Florida and most recently at Shriners Childrens Hospital in Springfield.

Over the years David was a traveler, a philosopher, a radio and tv technician, a motorcycle mechanic, orthotist and prosthetist, carpenter, airplane builder, pilot (like his Dad), merciless joke teller, and possessed talents too numerous to mention. He also enjoyed reading, golf, bicycling, live performance, and making new friends.

David was a Shriner and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and volunteered in their Young Eagles program.

What David was most proud of and best at was his role of husband, father , grandfather and friend. Above all, he enjoyed the company of his family and sharing the endeavors of his children and grandchildren. He was their ardent supporter, best cheerleader and source of unconditional love and acceptance.  He was Dave, David, Dad, Deave and Poppie. All of us who knew the joy and warmth of his love, share the pain of his passing.

He leaves his wife Denise, brother Douglas Harning, daughters Jeannie & Kim, step children Michael & Monique and 5 grandchildren...Kayla, Cody, Kyleen, Madelyn and Alexander.
