Obituary

Cecile A. (Gelinas) Lucchesi at the age of 77 departed this earthly life on January 29, 2023. Born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on April  20, 1945 to the late Harold and Jeannette (Allair) Gelinas. She is predeceased by her husband, Allan D. Lucchesi and her sister Emily Johnson. She graduated from Holyoke High School in 1963. She worked for many years for the family Billiard business in Somerville, MA., Kissimmee, FL., and in Holyoke, MA. Her last employment before retiring was a manager of the Craft Department at Ames in Southampton, MA.

My mom was diagnosed with alzheimers at 70 years of age and it has been a very long goodbye. She loved her family with all her heart and spent a lot of time with us all while she could. She loved her crafts, knitting, crocheting, sewing, doing word and jigsaw puzzles. By the end of her life she could not do any of the things she loved or remember all of us. My saving grace is knowing that she is not in any pain, there is no more suffering and that she is alzheimers free.

She left behind many loved ones. Beginning with her sisters, Yvonne Starner of VA., Annette Albert of MA. and her brother Harold Gelinas of MA. Her children, Lisa (Lucchesi) and Jeff Staples of MA., Allan and Katie Lucchesi of FL. Her grandchildren, Josh and Maegen Staples and Kaycee and DeShawn Brown, both from MA. She adored her great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Charlotte, Sloane, Tyler and Alexander. She had many other family members from my fathers side along with many nieces and nephews.

She lived in a nursing home for the last 5 years of her life after being diagnosed with alzheimers. She resided at Linda Manor in Leeds, MA and received the utmost dignity, care and love. I am blessed to have a long time family friend,  Rose Arsenault, that worked on the memory care unit. Rose was able to be with my mother when I could not (as my husband and I were in our Florida home for the winter) as she took her last breath. Words cannot express my love and appreciation to Rose and the staff at Linda Manor for the love and care they gave to my mom in her time of need.

Also I would like to thank Mitchell Funeral Home and their family for handling all the arrangements with such care. You are all like family to my husband and I.

A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mom, I loved you with all my heart.  Rest Easy and say Hi to Dad for me. You are now my angel in heaven.
