On August 26, 2025, we lost our sweet sister, Carolyn Lee (Eddy) Fontaine. A Christmas baby born 12/25/1946, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Wilbert and Margaret (Collenburg) Eddy of East Longmeadow. In September 1972 Carolyn married her devoted husband, Robert Dennis Fontaine, whom she leaves behind along with two stepsons, Robert Douglas Fontaine of Springfield, MA and Russell Dennis Fontaine of East Longmeadow, MA. Carolyn also leaves behind her brothers, Jeffrey P. Eddy of Myrtle Beach, SC, Donald T. Eddy of Westhampton, MA and Matthew D. Eddy of Fayetteville, NC. Carolyn graduated from East Longmeadow High School in 1964 having earned membership in the National Honor Society her last two years. She next graduated from Westfield State in 1968 and began later that same year teaching second grade at Woodland Elementary School in Southwick. She taught at Woodland Elementary for 35 years and was named to “Who’s Who of American Teachers” three times. For decades Carolyn and Bob delighted in hosting Christmas dinners for the family at their homes in Springfield, MA. After the passing of our parents, Carolyn and Bob’s house became the hub for family birthdays and pizza parties. Carolyn always made certain the candy dishes stayed well stocked for all her nieces and nephews. Carolyn and Bob loved dancing, taking summer vacations in NH or on the Cape, traveling around the US and spending time at the family cottage in Brimfield. As an educator Carolyn leaves behind a profound legacy of dedication and excellence as the beloved Mrs. Fontaine for so many of her students. For her family Carolyn will always be remembered, and missed, for the kindness and gentleness of her spirit and for the generosity of her heart. All who knew Carolyn are invited to a memorial service to be held at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park St, Easthampton, MA 01027 on Saturday Sept 27 at 11:30 AM. Donations in memory of Carolyn may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
