Carole Graeme Obituary

Carole Graeme, 84, of Easthampton, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Saturday March 26th, 2022. Her loving son, Timothy Graeme, was by her side.

Carole Cecelia Castellano was born to the late Anthony G. Castellano and Kathryn Jane (Donnelly) Castellano on August 18th, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA. Although she moved away from Philadelphia at a very young age, she was always proud to be a Philly girl at heart.

Carole grew up in Berkeley Heights, NJ. She graduated from Jonathan Dayton Regional High School in Springfield, NJ in 1955. She went on to study at Elmira College before transferring to the Columbia Presbyterian School of Nursing where she earned her BA in nursing in 1959.

Carole was married to the great love of her life, Dr. Robert Howard Graeme, on September 5th 1959 in Summit, NJ. Soon after, Carole and her new husband returned to Philadelphia, where Robert earned his degree in dentistry from The University of Pennsylvania. Over the years Carole and Robert lived in various places including St.John's, Newfoundland, Washington, NJ, and Hellertown, PA, finally retiring to Luther Crest Senior Living. In July of 2020 Carole moved to her son's home in Easthampton, MA due to the Covid Pandemic. Carole was predeceased by her loving husband who died in 2017, after almost 60 years of being totally devoted to each other.

Carole pursued several different career paths during her life including public health nurse, travel agent, and pre-school teacher. However, her favorite "job" was being a loving and caring mother to her son, Tim, and her daughter, Lilly and then a doting grandmother to four adored grandchildren.

Mrs. Graeme enjoyed many diverse hobbies that were, indeed, life-long passions. She was an avid filmgoer and was always thrilled to go to a Broadway musical of which she saw many. She followed thoroughbred horse racing her entire life, having attended the Preakness, the Belmont, and Royal Ascot. Alas, she rarely won on a two dollar bet. Carole was a true hostess and gourmet cook who planned and carried out, along with her husband, the most wonderful cocktail parties, dinner parties, family get-togethers, and holiday celebrations. She was a gifted interior decorator turning every home she lived in into a true show place, yet so comfortable and inviting to live in.

Carole is survived by her brother, Roger Castellano and his wife Pat of Chatham, NJ; her adoring son, Timothy B. Graeme and daughter in law Deirdre Graeme of Easthampton, MA , her daughter Elizabeth Graeme-Olson of Nazareth, PA, and her former son-in-law, Donald. H. Olson of Easton, PA. Those who called her Grammy are grandchildren Eamonn Graeme and Fiona Graeme, Robert Olson and Graeme Olson. There will be no viewing or funeral. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held on a date and manner yet to be determined. In lieu of sending flowers, we know Carole would be delighted in donations to one of the following: National Kidney Foundation, Planned Parenthood, or any Democratic candidate running in 2022.
