EASTHAMPTON – Blanche (Cote) LaValley died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family Friday, Sept. 1, 2017.
She was the daughter of Louis and Mary (Lawler) Cote. A lifelong resident of Easthampton, she married the love of her life, David S. LaValley and spent the next 45 years raising their family in the home they built together.
As the matriarch of her family, she filled those shoes with grace and compassion. She was there to listen with sympathy, advice or joy, whatever the situation called for, consistently with open arms and love. There are not enough words to describe how much she is loved, respected and admired by so many.
Above and beyond raising seven of her own, she helped give a good start to a multitude of other children over three generations. Before there was "day care" or "pre-school," she was it. From potty training to reading and writing, she did it all. As stated by "Son #4," "They say it takes a village to raise a child. She raised a village."
She was predeceased by her husband, David; their son, Daniel; their son-in-law, Ed Brumer and grandson, Nathan Brumer. She leaves her daughter, Diane and husband Fred Thouin of Easthampton; son David and partner Mary Varady of Westfield; Son Thomas of Easthampton; son James and wife Robin of Florida; son Patrick whom she lived with; and daughter Michelle of Florida. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, there will be no calling hours, wake or funeral. "Remember her life." A mass will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Sept. 16, at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cooley Dickinson Hospice who we thank from the bottom of our hearts for their compassionate care at this difficult time.
