Barbara (Gates) Petersen

Barbara Petersen of Southampton passed away on August 22, 2021, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. Barbara was born on April 27, 1934, in Sadorus, IL, the daughter of Luther and Alice (Thompson) Gates. Barbara was raised in Sadorus and attended local schools. Barbara   married Frederick Petersen in 1949.

Barbara was a loving mother of eight children, cub scout leader, an avid candle pin bowler, loved helping at Preschool where she was known as “Grandma Barb”. She loved to crochet and go camping and sitting around the camp fire. She cherished her time with her grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her daughters Betty-Jean Kocinski and husband John of Yulee, FL, Nettie Harber and husband William of Easthampton, Elizabeth Brotherton and husband George of Swansee, MA, Barbara Daigle of Southampton, Martha Wells and Husband Kim of Ware, Freddie Sanctuary of Blandford, 19 Grandchildren, 32 Greatgrandchildren and I Great Great Grandchild. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Frederick and her son Frederick Jr, and daughter Margaret Ellen.

Funeral services will be Friday August 27th at 11 am in the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Easthampton followed by burial in Center Cemetery in Southampton. Calling hours will be Friday from 10am till the time of the service.
