Aurelia E. Sudnick, age 95, of Easthampton Mass., died on Nov. 17 at Rockridge Retirement Community of natural causes.
“Lela” was born in the family home on Briggs Street on June 27, 1927. She graduated from Easthampton High School in 1944, then attended Northampton Commercial College and American International College (BS in Business Administration). She received a master’s in education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
In her youth, Aurelia worked as a secretary at Mass Mutual, Textron, First National Bank Amherst, Republic Aviation (MA and NY) and Montgomery Ward (CA). Her second career was as a business administration teacher at South Hadley High School from 1965 to 1987.
Aurelia volunteered for National Public Radio, YMCA, Pulaski Club, the Holyoke chapter of National Secretaries Association and Sacred Heart Church.
For a large part of her adulthood, Aurelia was a caregiver for both her parents. During that time, she was known for her large family parties, her love of classical music and opera, her vegetable and flower gardens, and her fun-loving devotion to her siblings, nieces, nephews and friends. After her parents died, she took up swimming, photography and, touring five continents, world travel with sister Valentine.
Aurelia is survived by nieces Judith Speckels, Helen Speckels, Elizabeth Davenport (John) and Beverly Fennell (Kent). Her nephews are Daniel Sudnick (Bonnie) and Michael Sudnik (Patricia).
There will be a brief visitation and prayer service at 9:30 am on Dec. 13 at Mitchell’s Funeral Home in Easthampton, followed by committal at Brookside Cemetery in Easthampton. www.mitchellcofuneralhome
