Veteran Farewell for Leon Mitchell

Let's take a moment to remember our friend and Veteran Leon Mitchell as he passes through our halls for the last time.

Leon was born on May 6, 1942 in Meriden, CT and had two brothers, one is deceased and Eugene lives in the area. Leon served his country in the US Airforce from January 1961 to January 1964.

Leon worked in shipping and sales. He married his wife, Linda later in life and she passed away about 10 years ago. Leon was a quite, easy going guy with gentle temperament. Although very hard of hearing, he took great pleasure in simple things. He enjoyed walking, being outside, swimming, watching sports and doing puzzles.

Leon was very religious and involved in Blessed Hope Church. He loved going to services weekly and enjoyed the fellowship. There he met Kevin Crouse and his wife who became devoted friends. They gave him rides to church, invited him to their home and became like family to him. They helped to manage his affairs, got him into the Soldiers' Home and were a loving support.

Here at the Soldiers' Home, Leon enjoyed many of the activities including picnics, Sara's music and donut day. He will be missed by the Soldiers Home staff that cared for him. Kevin, and his family and members of Blessed Hope Church will miss him dearly. LEON, YOU WILL BE FONDLY REMEMBER OF BY ALL WHO KNEW YOU AND WHOSE LIVES YOU HAVE TOUCHED.
