 Michael J. Bachand

EASTHAMPTON – Michael J. Bachand, 69, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2018 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital following a period of declining health. Michael was born in Northampton on September 23, 1949 to the late Francis and Blanche (Letourneau) Bachand. He was a graduate of Northampton High School and Holyoke Community College. Michael was employed for 22 years as an Electronic Technician for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 2012. Prior to his employment with the United States Postal Service, Michael worked for the former West Clothing Company and the former K Clothes in Florence. Michael enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and was proud of the accomplishments of his two sons. He spent his leisure time reading (he especially enjoyed Stephen King novels), working with computers, vacationing at island resorts, and visiting Cape Cod on a year-round basis. He was also an MG enthusiast and owned several classic cars during his lifetime, including a 1954 MG that he beautifully rebuilt and restored. Michael is survived by his two sons Jason Bachand and Matthew Bachand; his brother Eugene (Tony) Bachand and his wife Susan; his brother Francis Bachand and his wife Kathleen; and several nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth Bachand. Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 9th from 4pm to 7pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Easthampton, MA. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
