  Verna E. (Graham) McMahon, 85, of Easthampton, passed away on Sept. 11, 2018 in Westfield at Armbrook Village, where she was well cared for.


 Verna was born in Northampton, MA to James Perley and Lela Fulton Graham on October 12, 1932.  She went to Easthampton schools,  graduating from Easthampton High School in 1950.  She married James McMahon on November 18, 1950. Verna had a variety of jobs while raising 5 children. She went back to school to become a licensed practical nurse while still caring for 5 children and working part time.  She then worked as a nurse at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for many years.  After retiring from there, she attended Holyoke Community College for further education.


She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary; serving as the chaplain for years.  She was a member of the board of directors at the Easthampton Community Center, where she spent many happy hours volunteering.  She also served on the Easthampton Citizen’s Emergency Response Team.  Verna had a lifelong interest in writing poetry and stories. 


Verna was preceded in death by her brothers Walter, Lynn, Glenn and Donald Graham; her sisters Beverly Cotnoir and Carol Lussier, and her great granddaughter Emily Dushane.


Verna is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, James, her children and their spouses – Patrick and Jean McMahon, Marcia Dushane, Colleen and Kevin McCartney, Diana and William Wigham, and James and Celina McMahon; 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  She will be greatly missed by her many friends, especially Alice Konieczny and Ruth Rhodes, and her relatives in Nova Scotia.


The Funeral Services will be Saturday Sept 15 at 2pm in the Mitchell Funeral Home  15 Park Street Easthampton Ma.  Visiting hours will be from 1pm till the time of the service.  Burial will be private.


Memorial donations in her name may be given to the Easthampton Community Center or the Emily K. Dushane Memorial Foundation.


Her family  wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Henry Rosenberg, the staff and residents of Armbrook Village and Mercy Life.
