Helen J. Wentzel, 86, died Friday November 17, 2017 in her Southampton home. She was born December 17, 1930 in Northampton, the daughter of the late Wincenty and Julia Niedbalski. She graduated from Northampton High School with Class of 1948, later graduated from the former Northampton Commercial College.

Helen first started working with the Law firm of Stevens and Dunphy. Helen eventually worked for the telephone  company, where her dedication was reflected in her perfect attendance  award. After 15 years of service, she retired in 1987. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton, MA.

During her spare time Helen enjoyed sewing crocheting and knitting,  She made many rag dolls, clothes and afghan blankets for family  & friends. Helen’s other beloved past time was baking as attested by her loving neighbors in Southampton,She enjoyed her summers in  Cape Cod, where she spent many years with her husband, Jim.  Helen was also an avid dog lover and owner

Helen is survived by one sister Margaret Keating, of Tampa, FL and two sons James J. Wentzel, Jr., and his wife Sandra of Goshen, and Gregory F. Wentzel and his wife Mary Jo of Virginia, one daughter Sheila A. Wentzel of Whately,  five grandchildren Nicole, Justin, Lauren, Melissa and Jeremy, four great grandchildren: several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, James J. Wentzel, Sr., who she shared her life with for 62 years.

The funeral will be Monday November 27,  at 10.30 am from the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of  the Valley Parish at 11 am, both of Easthampton. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Northampton. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 9.00 am to 10.30am. Memorial gifts in Helen’s memory may be given to a charity of one’s choice
