John A. Pompei, Sr., 96, of Easthampton died Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Loomis House in Holyoke. He was born in Barrington ,RI, the son of Guiseppe and Francesca Lama Pompei. He attended Barrington Schools. John was Plant Manager for Kleistone Rubber Co. of Warren RI for 26 years. He moved to Easthampton in 1970 and was employed in management at the former Paragon Rubber Co. of Easthampton. John in his retirement kept active as a consultant and sales representative for Paul Martin Rubber Co. of Holyoke for 10 years followed by part time employment for Yankee Candle Co. He was a proud, compassionate, giving man serving as a volunteer at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for more than 15 years. John was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, former Eucharistic Minister and an active member of Knights of Columbus Chapter both of Easthampton. He was an avid Red Sox fan living to see his dream come true of the team winning the World Series - three times. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Frances Cardoza Pompei in December 1999.

John is survived by two sons Joseph G. Pompei and wife Ivy of Billerica, John A. Pompei, Jr. and wife Carmela of Easthampton, four grandchildren, Marissa Libby and husband Ryan, Roberto Pompei and wife Marie,  Jessica Cox and husband Brian and Alex Pompei and three great grandchildren Leah, Jude and Ian Cox and one sister Theresa Ferrucci of No. Providence, RI. He was known to most people as “Poppy” including very dear family friend, Jody Harris and her children. He was predeceased by one sister Josephine Cicerchia and one brother Mario Pompei.

Funeral services will be Thursday September 7th at 10 am in Our Lady of the Valley Church, 33 Adams Street, Easthampton. Visiting hours will be Wednesday September 6th from 4pm to 7pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Easthampton. In lieu of flowers gifts in John’s memory may be given to American Diabetes Association or to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
