Richard W. Ahart, 87, of Southampton died June 26, in Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton. He was born in Candor, NY on  May 9, 1927 the son of  Alton and  Ethel (Warner) Ahart. He was retired Inventory Control Manager for Agway in Westfield. He was a  US Army Veteran of WW II serving in the occupation of Germany. Richard was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Northampton.
He was a member of both Southampton and Candor Historical Societies, a member of the Southampton Historical Commission and their representative to the Master Plan Implementation Committee. He served on the Hampshire County Interfaith Shelter Management Committee from its inception and volunteered at shelter during shelter season. In 2010 he received the Kimball W. Howes Paragon Award for a lifetime of Inspiring volunteer leadership.

 

Richard is survived by his wife of  56 years Virginia (Hilfiker) Ahart,
two sons Thomas Ahart and wife Susan of PA., Mark Ahart and wife Beth of Southampton, one daughter Roxanne Pin and husband Clem, Jr. of Huntington,
one brother Alan Ahart and wife Jean of Candor, NY., two sisters Carolyn Roberts  and Rita Quinlan and husband Fred all of Candor, NY. and six grandchildren
Clement,lll , of NY. and Chad Pin of Huntington, Bert and Martha Ahart of Southampton, Cecelia and Richard Ahart of PA. He was predeceased by one sister Barbara Sanders.

 

Memorial services will be held July 6, at 3pm in Christ United  Methodist Church, 271 Rocky Hill Road  (Route 66), Northampton. Ma.
Visiting time will precede the service from 2pm until the time of the service.
